The challenge

Organic material makes up a significant share of the region's landfilled waste, driving disposal costs, methane emissions and the loss of nutrients that local farmland needs. Any solution has to be proven at small scale before capital is committed.

Our approach

  1. 1

Waste audit to quantify tonnages, seasonality and contamination levels.

  2. 2

Feedstock agreements mapped across council collections and commercial generators.

  3. 3

Technology screening across digestion, composting and biochar pathways.

  4. 4

Pilot designed at controlled scale with clearly defined success criteria.

  5. 5

Independent measurement, verification and public reporting before any expansion.

Expansion

  • Target outcome: reduced landfill tonnage and associated disposal cost.
  • Target outcome: lower methane emissions from diverted organics.
  • Target outcome: compost and digestate returned to regional farmland.
  • Target outcome: local operations and maintenance roles created around the facility.
